Overlooking the banks of lake maggiore, in the town centre of stresa and directly opposite to the borromean islands, the hotel is a prestigious place both for its facilities and its history. It dates back to 1908, the year in which it was inaugurated. To enhance the entrance from the internal garden, in 2005 albano poli was charged to implement an external shelter. The external shelter was built up in a liberty style and an inner door was created to embellish the whole entrance. The inner door is in liberty style too and it is made of blown glass, wrought steel and gold decorations. Inside, albano poli used blown glass to create a circular skylight illuminating and decorating the great and precious staircase.

Archisio - Progetto Arte Poli srl - Progetto The glass church baranzate milan
The s.maria della misericordia church, located in baranzate in the milan province, represents a building of religious and social importance and a modern work of art in the town’s history that is still today object of study by architects and designers. The restoration of nostra signora della misericordia church in baranzate, called the glass church, had the purpose of restoring its original aspect, adapting the building to the required needs and comforts, with reference to the building that cardinal montini consecrated on the 7th of november 1958 and that was designed by the architects mangiarotti, morassuti and favini. This project was the rewriting of the same work: what was left by the original building has created in this work the unavoidable thread to go along once again. Inside the church’s global restoration there was the renovation of the metal structures and of the glass façades. The metal structure of the walls In the analysis made by the sbg designers, many problems have been met which have implied important changes to the restoration project, also thanks to the cooperation and the proposals made by progetto arte poli during the works, as to give a suitable and concrete solution to every problem. On the metal structure too, which wanted to maintain the original aesthetic principles, a particular study has been carried out that had to guarantee the respect of the current regulations under all aspects: anti-seismic, structural-architectural, thermal insulation and sound proofing. In order that the structure would ensure the durability and reproduce simultaneously the "aluminium" visual effect of the coating used to cover the old iron deteriorated frame, a complex framework made of blasted and painted stainless has been designed. This important change in the material has implied numerous studies to maintain the architectural dimensional measures of the original project and to determine the new fixing systems to the perimetric structure respecting the current regulations. The glass panels As per the glass panels the purpose was to reach the original effect using an external striped glass and an internal polystyrene panel, to which we needed to add performance characteristics both thermic, aesthetic than the durability required by the clients. After a long and particular research we have arrived to a solution that provides for a triple double-glazing with four glasses of composition and with different characteristics whose combined parts allow to obtain the desired effect without using perishable films.

Customer’s request:to enhance the cathedral in bari with a candleholder for the paschal candle. Given the fact that the church is visited by many adherents of different christian faith professions, the client requested an artwork which would have a wide ecumenical and catechesis value. The challenges: to make a candleholder which would compliment the comprehensive art of the cathedral and would be characterized by a metaphorical style which everyone could easily understand.it was aimed to be another piece of the millennial christian path of this heterogeneous community. The artwork: The candleholder is inspired by the “exultet” of bari (x-xi a.c.), which invites the believers to exult for the fulfillment of the paschal mistery. The candleholder is bounded by scenes which recall the history of the safeness of the humankind. The several events described are all linked to the theme of the water. Saint bishops nicola and sabino, and two prophet are carved into base, accompanied by the symbols of the four evangelists at the corners. Master poli decided to engrave the holy jerusalem for the first image, as a way to communicate to those who look at the artwork that the safeness of the humankind has been in god's mind since the origin of humanity. From there, the scenes move on to the expulsion from the garden of eden to the resurrection sunday where god saves his people from slavery. The old testament scenes conclude with the depiction of the ark of the covenant. The new testament begins with a scene of the annunciation: mary is represented near the bees, which are the symbol of breeding in virginity. Jesus reveals himself as the messiah throught the faith of john the baptist during the baptism of christ and through mary's faith where the first miracle is performed at the wedding at cana. In conjunction with that episode we find the last supper which is intended to convey the beginning and the end of the jesus' missions of preaching. The passion is symbolically represented by the lamb, the same lamb of the holy jerusalem, and also the tree of life which revokes the cross and at the same time the garden of eden. The last image is the risen christ together with the apostles in one of his appearances before pentecost. He is the light in the world. We all exult with the words “exultet iam angelica turba caelorum!”, carved on the top of the candleholder. The artwork is 3 meters high and is carved out of one single piece of marble. The marble used (trani) is the same one used to build the cathedral.

In the first catholic university in hong kong several artworks were designed and made: entrance stained glass windows, marble inlay mosaic in the conference hall, stained glass windows, ceiling artistic paintings, bronze crucifix and liturgical furniture of the chapel. The artworks of the institute were designed as a “single, comprehensive project”, where you can observe the generative process, its unravelling from the original point to its deepest forms. The same works thus can simply transmit their contents by becoming “messengers” of universal contents common to all humankind. The theme guide and the content for the artistic making of the works is the “divine light”, the illumination of the spirit over darkness, one theme, common denominator of the teaching of three saints, francis of assisi, francis of sales and francis xavier. Three strong evidences that become universal messages: love through nature, love through teaching, love through communication.

Customer’s request: making of the side door for the monument “cross of the third millenium” (coquimbo, chile). The challenges: the biggest challenge was to make a side door which should have both an important meaning (by representing the bound with the community and the country) and at the same time wouldn't diminish the existing main door. Strategy and implementation: this door is dedicated to mary, in particular our lady of mount carmel. Given the devotion of chilean people to our lady, master poli chose to represent a “new mary”, who could be identified as “our lady of chile”. Our lady is holding jesus and is surrounded by angels. Each one has a scroll with the name of each chilean regions. The entire country is there and it pays homage to mary. The clothing of mary is opened on the front and it has a double meaning: first of all it is the traditional symbol of maternity, but also represents the outline of the country of chile. A dark patina was used to enhance the features of the door: the angels, our lady and chile. Technical specifications: The door is composed by a bronze part in the front and a restored wooden part at the back.

Customer’s request: implementing a work to split the baptistery into two parts to create a safe passage for tourists visiting the basilica and to protect the masterpieces located in this area, including the baptistery. The challenges: implementing a glass partition wall that is both a work of art and a structure integrated in the environment and in the existing architecture. Installing the work in a non-invasive way and without damaging the decorated walls of the baptistery. Strategy and implementation: geometrical shapes and abstract patterns were used for this work: the first ones were used to adapt the work to the existing architecture, while the second ones were employed to create a unique masterpiece in this prestigious environment. The regular geometric pattern of the light grid is a filter between the two environments, capable of breaking down the power of the central beam, a heavenly ray of light coming from the holy ghost. Fair and luminous colours, such as white and yellow, were used, flowing on the glass window surface, toning down to create warm and appealing nuances. The lines break the grid and make it more vibrant, thus highlighting the luminous central part, where the holy ghost is visible in the upper lines: a white dove surrounded by the purifying light. The other door was designed using the same style to make the whole work more consistent. The glass window was created by using matt glass panes in the lower part as well as more transparent ones in the upper part to prevent tourists from looking inside the baptistery and to preserve the view of the architectural elements in the upper part, so that they can still communicate one with the other through the glass window. Technical specifications: the stainless steel frame has been adapted to the architecture to limit any invasive setting up intervention: six points of the frame are actually in touch with the walls and with the upper vault, which is where the closing element is located, made of tempered glass shaped adapting it to the decorations. Panels are placed in a double glazing window, which makes both environments safe for visitors, prevents the deterioration. The double glazing system provide an acoustic insulation to avoid any hindrance to the celebrations in the baptistery. Materials employed: we used high quality and hand-crafted mouth blown glass panes, which were shaped and engraved to obtain specific nuances and colours.

The deep experience in the artistic sector has led progetto arte poli studio to take part in the project of the artist sergio rodella to create a three-dimensional sculpture depicting the man wrapped in the shroud. Today progetto arte poli is the only studio authorized to faithfully reproduce this sculpture in different materials thanks to its experience and ability to create works of art by combining traditional manual techniques with the most innovative technologies.the first faithful copy of the sculpture has been reproduced in plaster for the maronite catholic church in lebanon and represents the deserved recognition of the great scientific and meticulous work done for over two years.the scientific method required deep anatomical studies and the development of a particular mould considering that the body was wrapped in the sheet.taking into consideration that the body was in close contact with the linen cloth, it was then possible to explain scientifically that some imperfections that can be noticed on the shroud are only the result of an incorrect way of evaluating the shroud. The shroud is exposed today as a sheet perfectly stretched and laid on a flat surface, but taking into consideration that it wrapped a body, the most truthful image is achieved through the placement of the cloth over a three-dimensional model that fills the space that surrounded it. We wanted to give dimensions and volumes to that tormented body that was contained in the cloth. By calculating the whole bone structure of the man of the shroud the sculptor has made an iron model with semi-movable parts so that they could be moved and modified according to the studies and the modifications needed during the production phase of the model. Subsequently, after finding all anatomical proportions, the clay was then applied in order to shape the man in a rigorous manner.nowadays the sculpture is the most faithful image of the body wrapped in the shroud and represents a huge progress in the research and knowledge of the shroud and what it can reveal about the torture suffered by the body it wrapped.
